Carnation represents one of some 300 species of annual, biennial and perennial herbs of the genus Dianthus, with the meaning of "flower of Zeus" from the Greek language. Being the representative of the Caryophyllaceae family it has such relatives as sweet William, gypsophila and chickweed. The carnation is a fascinating flower falling into either a standard carnation with a big flower borne per long stem, or a spray carnation with plenty of miniature blossoms.
Carnation is the popular and best-selling cut flower in the United Kingdom. It is a perfect cut flower of great value with long vase’s lasting. Having a plenty of meanings this flower is the symbol of some thing as well. One of the well-known meanings of carnation stands for fascination and great devoted love.
It is believed that pink carnations were the first which occurred on Earth. It was the very moment when a tear fell from the Virgin Mary's eye and Jesus Christ was carrying the cross. The Christian legend tells that carnation was sprung up from the Earth when her tear reached the ground. Nowadays the pink flower signifies mother's infinite love and devotion. This flower is gifted to all mothers on Mothering Sunday.
Canadian people wear a red flower if their mother is alive; if one sees a white flower this points out on the mother’s death.
